A locally issued plan gives you a defined hospital network, usually public hospitals plus mid-tier private groups such as the BMA hospitals, Vibharam, Mongkutwattana and parts of the Phyathai group. Premium international hospitals such as Bumrungrad and Samitivej Sukhumvit are typically outside the network, so treatment there is either excluded or reimbursed only at the network rate.

Pre-existing conditions are excluded by default on almost every Thai and international policy. Some insurers will cover a declared condition after a waiting period of one to two years, and others accept it immediately in exchange for a loading on the premium.
