NAATI Frequently Asked Question

What should a Thai employment reference contain before it is translated?

Direct Answer

Full employee name, position, start and end dates, full-time status or weekly hours, detailed duties, all on company letterhead with an authorised signature and a contact point for verification.

In-depth Answer

The employment reference is among the most frequently rejected items in skills assessment and skilled-visa processing, because the standard Thai template says little more than that the person worked here from year A to year B in role C.

That is not enough for an assessor deciding whether the experience matches an ANZSCO occupation code.

Before ordering the translation, ask HR to add three things: weekly hours or an explicit statement of full-time employment; a list of at least five to eight duties actually performed, written with action verbs; and the signatory's contact details, since the authority may verify by phone or email.

Only then send it for translation — the practitioner renders exactly what the source says and cannot add substance that is not there.
