QuotableDenmark has been a Hague Apostille member since 2007 and accepts Thai documents bearing the MFA Thailand Apostille issued since 28 February 2027. Every document filed with Familieretshuset, SIRI Styrelsen for International Rekruttering og Integration, CPR-registret or Statsforvaltningen must be accompanied by a certified translation, ideally by a translatør or beskikket translatør recognised by Danish authorities. NYC Legal completes Thai certified translation, MFA Apostille and Danish-side translator coordination in five to seven business days from THB 3,500.

Denmark Authority Requirements

Since Thailand's Hague Apostille accession enters into force on 28 February 2027, Familieretshuset (Family Court Agency — handles marriage, divorce, custody), SIRI (Styrelsen for International Rekruttering og Integration — residence/work permits), the CPR-registret (Central Person Register), every Statsforvaltningen successor body and the Udenrigsministeriet (UM) accept a single MFA Thailand Apostille in place of the legacy Danish Embassy legalisering. The Embassy of Denmark in Bangkok discontinued legalisering for documents bearing the new Apostille on the same date. NYC Legal handles every step inside Thailand: Ministry of Justice court-listed translator certification (compliant with Retsplejeloven evidentiary rules), MFA Department of Consular Affairs Apostille submission via the e-Authentication portal, and coordination with Danish translatører (formerly statsautoriserede translatører before the 2016 deregulation, now beskikkede translatører for legal purposes or members of Translatørforeningen) when Familieretshuset or SIRI requires a Denmark-issued certified translation. Per Udlændingeloven §9 family reunification applications require apostilled Thai documents plus high-quality certified translation. For registration of a Thai marriage in the CPR-registret and Familieretshuset's vielsesregister, the Thai Kor.Ror.3 must be apostilled and translated.

Validity window: Familieretshuset accepts Thai civil-status documents apostilled within 6 months of submission. SIRI accepts up to 12 months for most familiesammenføring categories. Police clearance must be ≤6 months old at SIRI submission per Udlændingeloven §9.

End-to-End Apostille Pipeline (Denmark)

  1. 1. Document intake & destination match
We confirm whether the destination is Familieretshuset (marriage/divorce/custody, prøvelsesattest), SIRI (familiesammenføring §9), CPR-registret (residence registration) or Erhvervsstyrelsen (corporate). Each has distinct format demands.
  2. 2. Certified Thai → Danish/English translation
Court-listed translator (Ministry of Justice roster) certifies. SIRI accepts English translations from Thailand; Familieretshuset and CPR typically prefer Danish via a Danish translatør.
  3. 3. MFA Apostille — Department of Consular Affairs
Submitted electronically. Normal 3 business days; same-day express for THB 800. Apostille format Convention-compliant.
  4. 4. Danish translatør re-translation (if required)
Where Familieretshuset or CPR demands a Denmark-issued certified translation, we courier the apostilled original to a partner translatør in København or Aarhus (5-7 business day round trip).
  5. 5. Quality-control review
Names verified per CPR practice. Date formats include both Gregorian and Buddhist Era. Danish æ/ø/å cross-checked against CPR orthographic standards.
  6. 6. Delivery
EMS to Danish address (5-8 business days) or DHL Express (2-3 days). Original retained in NYC escrow for later indfødsret (citizenship) use.

Common Pitfalls We Eliminate

Familieretshuset prøvelsesattest — 4-month validity
Familieretshuset issues a prøvelsesattest (certificate of no impediment) for marriages in Denmark, valid for 4 months from issuance. We coordinate apostilled documents to arrive 2-3 weeks before the planned attest issuance window.
2016 translator-authorisation deregulation
Denmark deregulated statsautoriseret translatør status in 2016. Familieretshuset and Domstolene now accept translations by any qualified translator but in practice expect Translatørforeningen members or holders of legacy beskikkelse for court proceedings. We work only with established translators to avoid rejection.
Danish Embassy 'still required' misinformation
Visa agents continue advertising Danish Embassy legalisering. Since 14 Dec 2024 the MFA Apostille is conclusive; we cite the UM Udenrigsministeriet circular if challenged at VFS Denmark Bangkok or at SIRI service centre.
Tax-card and CPR sequencing
First CPR registration triggers skattepersonnummer assignment, which takes 1-3 weeks after the apostilled+translated documents arrive at Borgerservice. Employment cannot start without skattepersonnummer — we schedule document arrival to minimise the gap.

FAQ — Denmark Apostille

Is Danish Embassy legalisering still required?

No. From 28 February 2027 Denmark accepts the MFA Thailand Apostille directly. The Embassy of Denmark in Bangkok has discontinued legalisering for apostilled Thai documents. Familieretshuset, SIRI, the CPR-registret, every Statsforvaltningen successor body and the Udenrigsministeriet treat the MFA Apostille as conclusive authentication. Paying for embassy legalisering in addition is wasted money and slows the file by 2-3 weeks.

Do I need a Danish certified translator?

Almost always for in-country filings. Familieretshuset (vielsesregister, prøvelsesattest), CPR-registret (residence registration) and Domstolene (legal proceedings) consistently expect translation by a Translatørforeningen member or holder of legacy beskikkelse, even after the 2016 deregulation of statsautoriseret status. SIRI accepts English translations from Thai court-listed translators for most familiesammenføring §9 applications. We coordinate Danish translatør re-translation for Familieretshuset-bound documents.

What is the validity window of a Thai single-status certificate?

Familieretshuset caps acceptance at 4 months from issuance for prøvelsesattest issuance. For direct registration of a foreign marriage in CPR via Borgerservice the window is 6 months. We synchronise issuance, MFA Apostille and Danish translatør translation with the planned wedding or registration date.

Can I register a Thai marriage in CPR?

Yes via Borgerservice and Familieretshuset's vielsesregister. The apostilled and translated Thai Kor.Ror.3 is filed at the Borgerservice of the Danish spouse's municipality. Processing is 2-8 weeks; once registered the marriage appears in CPR and Familieretshuset's vielsesregister and unlocks SIRI familiesammenføring under Udlændingeloven §9 c and eventual indfødsret pathways.

Does Denmark verify the MFA Apostille digitally?

Yes. SIRI case officers and Familieretshuset officers verify Thai Apostilles via the e-Register at consular.mfa.go.th/eapostille (QR or Apostille number lookup). Domstolene typically rely on document inspection but escalate verification to UM Udenrigsministeriet within 72 hours when in doubt.

What about indfødsret (Danish citizenship)?

The MFA Apostille is required on every Thai supporting document (birth, marriage, PCSC, Tor.Ror.14) submitted with the indfødsret ansøgning under Indfødsretsloven §6. Danish translatør translation is mandatory for the Familieretshuset and CPR portion. We coordinate the complete bundle including a København translatør whose work Indfødsretskontoret reliably accepts.

Source documents commonly apostilled together for Denmark

Apostille certifies the seal/signature on a Thai-issued document so Denmark authorities will accept it. Two of the most common source documents are the Thai Police Clearance Certificate (PCSC) and the Thai marriage certificate (Kor.Ror.2/3) — both must be issued first, then routed through MFA for Apostille.

Compliant sequence under the Hague Apostille Convention (Thailand acceded 14 Dec 2024): issue the source document → certified translation by an MoJ-listed sworn translator → Notary Public → MFA Department of Consular Affairs Apostille.

Regulatory updates for Denmark 2025–2026

  • Denmark is a Hague Apostille member — Thai docs via MFA can carry Apostille (Thailand joined 15 Dec 2025), saving 3–7 days vs. Consular Legalization.
  • MFA Consular (Chaeng Watthana) accepts online booking only from Jan 2026 — reserve e-service in advance.
  • Accepting authority in Denmark: SIRI / Borgerservice.
  • Documents must be issued within 6 months — older copies risk refusal.

Common mistakes that trigger rejection

  1. Using freelance translators not on the MoJ/MFA registry — Denmark refuses on sight.
  2. Name/place spelling mismatches with the passport — always cross-check.
  3. Original documents older than 6 months — some countries require ≤ 3 months.
  4. Filing Consular Legalization when Denmark accepts Apostille — wastes 5–10 days and duplicate fees.

Anonymized micro case

A client prepared docs for Denmark themselves and was refused because the translator was off-registry and the MFA step was missing. NYCLI (DBD 0435567000061) re-translated via MoJ-registered translators, filed MFA + Apostille, cleared in 5-7 วันทำการ — accepted first pass.
