Brazil: Hague Apostille party
Brazil acceded to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention with effect from 14 August 2016 and Thailand acceded on 30 June 2026 (in force for Thailand 28 February 2027). Thai documents bearing the MFA Apostille are accepted directly by Brazilian authorities. The Brazilian Embassy in Bangkok (Lumpini) ceased Thai-document legalisation in 2016.
Apostille is issued by the Conselho Nacional de Justiça (CNJ) — the central authority supervising all Cartórios in Brazil — under Resolução CNJ 228/2016. Every Cartório de Registro Civil, Tabelionato de Notas and Junta Comercial across the 26 states + Distrito Federal accepts the Apostille directly.
Most-requested document types
CPF (Cadastro de Pessoa Física): Brazilian tax ID required to open a bank account or buy property — applied at Receita Federal with passport and apostilled Birth Certificate.
RNM (Registro Nacional Migratório): residence card from the Polícia Federal for work visas (VITEM I–XIV) or spouse — requires apostilled Birth Certificate, Police Clearance and Marriage Certificate.
Cartório de Registro Civil: marriage with a Brazilian national at the local Cartório requires apostilled Single Status + Birth Certificate + passport under Lei 6.015/1973 Art. 67.
Junta Comercial: foreign company registration (Sociedade Limitada) requires apostilled Power of Attorney + Articles of Association + Tradução Juramentada under Lei 8.934/1994.
OAB / CRM / CREA: professional credential recognition (lawyer/doctor/engineer) requires apostilled Diploma + Transcript — the Conselho Federal of each profession revalidates under Lei 9.394/1996.

Tradução Juramentada (Portuguese): R$ 80–150/page (~THB 550–1,050) by a Tradutor Público Juramentado registered with the Junta Comercial of the destination state.
DHL Express to São Paulo/Rio: THB 2,800–3,800; 4–6 business days with tracking.
Destination fees: CPF free, RNM R$ 168 (~THB 1,200), Junta Comercial R$ 200–800 depending on state.
End-to-end RNM + CPF (3 documents): THB 4,500–7,000; 8–12 business days.
Brazil-specific pitfalls
1) Tradução Juramentada is mandatory under Decreto 13.609/1943 — Thai translations are not accepted; documents must be translated in Brazil by a sworn translator registered with the Junta Comercial of the destination state (São Paulo, Rio, Minas Gerais, etc.).
2) The Thai Apostille must sit on an original or on a certified copy notarised by a Notarial Services Attorney — Cartórios reject self-made copies.
3) Visto VITEM XI (family) requires apostilled Birth Certificate of the inviter + Marriage Certificate + Comprovante de Residência — Carnaval (February) closes the Polícia Federal for four days.
4) Names on the CPF must match the passport exactly — a single-character mismatch requires a correction at Receita Federal taking 30–45 days.
5) Reciprocidade: Brazil applies reciprocity — Thai nationals working in Brazil under the MERCOSUL Residence Agreement (Decreto 6.964/2009) receive treatment equivalent to member-state nationals.
