Bahrain: Apostille used directly — the only GCC Hague member
The Kingdom of Bahrain joined the Hague Apostille Convention 1961 effective 31 Dec 2013 (Royal Decree 73/2013) — the only GCC member (Saudi/UAE/Qatar/Kuwait/Oman are not). Thai documents bearing an MFA Apostille are accepted directly by: LMRA, MOI eKey (Residence + Civil ID), NHRA, Sharia Court (separate Sunni + Ja'fari Shia tracks), SLRB, MOE Equivalency, EDB, and CBB.
No Embassy of Bahrain Bangkok legalisation step is required (pre-Dec 2013 it was) — 60% faster, 50% cheaper than other GCC corridors.

Work Permit: LMRA issues Work Permits under Labour Law 36/2012; since 2017, the Flexi Permit (GCC first) allows foreign workers to work without Kafala/sponsor — BHD 449 (2 years). Standard Work Permit is BHD 172/year.
Marriage: Family Law 19/2017 (Unified Family Code — Sunni + Ja'fari Shia) routes Muslims through Mahkamat Shar'iya.

Bahrain-specific risks
1) Only GCC Hague member: chain drops from 3 stages to 1 (Apostille). Embassy of Bahrain Bangkok still handles Visa/Consular, but no longer accepts Legalisation.
2) Sunni vs Ja'fari Shia: Bahrain is ~65–70% Shia + ~30–35% Sunni. Sharia Court tracks remain separate; since Family Law 19/2017 the substantive rules are unified, but procedural tracks follow the Bahraini spouse's denomination.
3) Flexi Permit reform 2017: Bahrain was the GCC first-mover to abolish Kafala for existing workers — reducing sponsor dependence and allowing multi-employer work.
4) MOFA Manama hours: Diplomatic Area office Sun–Thu 07:30–13:30 (Ramadan 09:00–13:00); closed Fri–Sat + Eid + National Day 16–17 Dec, Ashura (Shia public holiday).
