Chile: Hague Apostille + Official Translation
The República de Chile acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention 1961 on 30 August 2016 (Ley 20.711, deposited at the Hague Conference in April 2016; entered into force four months later). Thai documents bearing a Thai MFA Apostille are accepted directly by Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación (SRCeI), Servicio de Impuestos Internos (SII), Conservador de Bienes Raíces (CBR), Departamento de Extranjería y Migración (DEM) and Tribunales de Justicia — no need to file through the Embassy of Chile Bangkok (Sathorn) or MINREL Santiago.
Decreto Supremo 81/2015 (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores) requires foreign documents to be translated into Spanish by a Traductor Oficial registered with the Departamento de Traducciones del Ministerio de RR.EE. (Catedral 1158, Santiago) or by a Notario Público. Thai translations are accepted for ordinary commercial use but Registro Civil, CBR and Tribunales require Traductor Oficial Santiago.

DHL Bangkok → Santiago (SCL): THB 2,500–4,000/parcel; 5–8 business days + 1–2 days Aduana clearance.
Traductor Oficial (Ministerio RR.EE.): CLP 35,000–80,000/page (~THB 1,300–3,000); 3–5 business days + sello consular CLP 8,500.
Notario Público (re-certify): CLP 15,000–30,000/page (~THB 600–1,200) for POA / Company docs.

Chile-specific pitfalls
1) DS 81/2015 s.5 mandates Traducción Oficial by a Traductor Oficial registered with the Ministerio de RR.EE. (Departamento de Traducciones, Catedral 1158, Santiago) — Thai translations are rejected at Registro Civil, CBR and Tribunales.
2) Ley 19.947 (Matrimonio Civil) s.80 recognises foreign marriages, but they must be registered at Registro Civil within 30 days to be effective for civil law (inheritance, AFP, FONASA).
3) RUT for non-residents takes the form of RUT Tributario (starting 4x or 5x) — distinct from RUN for residents. Apply at SII with Apostilled passport + Mandatario in Chile.
4) The CBR of each comuna (Santiago, Las Condes, Providencia, etc.) is independent — property must be registered at the CBR of the comuna where it is located. Registration fee 0.2% of price + UF 1–2 (~THB 35,000–70,000).
5) DEM (since Ley 21.325 in 2021) tightened visa rules — Visa Temporaria de Trabajo requires a contract + proof no Chilean can fill the role + Tax Compliance of the hiring company.
