Why TECO is still the only channel
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Bangkok performs the consular functions of an embassy on behalf of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Because Taiwan is not a UN member state, it is structurally excluded from the Hague Apostille Convention — Apostille issued by Thai MFA carries no legal effect in Taiwan, and TECO will reject documents that have not been routed through the legacy authentication chain.
Operationally this means Thai documents destined for Taiwan continue to require: certified translation → MFA Chaeng Wattana legalisation → TECO Bangkok attestation → onward submission in Taiwan, with optional MOFA Taipei re-attestation depending on the receiving Taiwanese authority.
Employment Gold Card — eight professional categories
Taiwan's Employment Gold Card combines a work visa, residence permit, and open work authorisation in a single card valid 1–3 years. Eligibility spans eight categories: technology, finance, economy, education, culture, sport, architecture, and healthcare. The documentary pack: highest degree certificate, English CV/resume, written confirmation of five years of relevant experience, and a Royal Thai Police clearance certificate issued within the last six months.

Joint Family Visa and Household Registration
A Thai national marrying a Taiwanese citizen typically files for the Joint Family Visa (依親居留) leading to an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC). The Thai-side document set: the Amphur marriage certificate, the applicant's birth certificate, a pre-marriage single-status affidavit, and a Royal Thai Police clearance.
After TECO attestation the documents travel to Taiwan, where they are filed at the Household Registration Office (戶政事務所) of the Taiwanese spouse's hukou jurisdiction. The office records the marriage in the Taiwanese civil registry and issues the spouse's updated household register — the prerequisite for the ARC. Tip: request TECO attestation in duplicate so the spouse retains an original after the Registration Office files its copy.
Investment Visa and corporate documentation
The Taiwanese Investment Visa requires a minimum TWD 6 million committed capital and a coordinated filing at the Ministry of Economic Affairs Investment Commission (MOEAIC).
