Frequently asked questions
Do I have to remit money before applying?
No — but you must complete the USD 500K investment within 1 year of endorsement and maintain it throughout the visa term.
Is the foreign-income tax exemption real?
Yes. Royal Decree No. 743 (2022) exempts foreign-sourced income remitted into Thailand from Thai personal income tax for LTR holders in the Wealthy Global Citizen, Wealthy Pensioner, and Work-from-Thailand categories. The exemption applies only while your LTR status is valid, and Thai-sourced income remains fully taxable. Confirm your filing position with a Thai tax adviser each year.
Do I still need 90-day reports?
Yes, LTR holders still report their address to Immigration, but the cadence drops from every 90 days to once a year. You can file the annual report at the One Stop Service Center in Chamchuri Square or the Immigration office covering your residence, and you should keep every receipt for renewal at year five.
Can I get a long Thai driving license?
Yes. LTR holders can apply directly for the five-year Thai driving licence rather than starting with the two-year temporary one. Bring a Certificate of Residence from the OSS or Immigration, your passport with the LTR stamp, a medical certificate, and pass the Department of Land Transport physical-ability test.
How does renewal after 5 years work?
BOI reviews qualification at year 5; if still eligible, the visa extends a further 5 years at no renewal fee.
