Quick answer

Foreigners who have lived in Thailand for 6+ months can apply for a Thai Police Clearance at the Royal Thai Police HQ, Chaeng Watthana. Ten-finger prints + passport scan + two 2-inch photos, government fee THB 100, ready in 20 business days. NYC full package from THB 4,500 including Apostille.

Where the certificate is required

1) US Green Card (I-485) — needed if you lived in Thailand ≥6 months 2) UK Skilled Worker / ILR — required from every country of ≥12 months residence 3) Australia Skilled Migration 189/190 — character test 4) Canada Express Entry — criminal check 5) New Zealand Residency — Certificate of Good Character 6) International adoption 7) Government / international-organisation employment.

Livescan vs inked fingerprints

Livescan — accepted by US FBI, Canada RCMP, Singapore MHA. Inked — required by UK DBS, Australia AFP, New Zealand NZP; some countries return the prints to origin for cross-check. NYC captures both in one sitting.

Address requirement

Show a Certificate of Residence from Immigration or a TM.30 + house registration for owned properties. NYC files the CoR and coordinates the landlord signature.

If you have a record

Thai cases will appear on the certificate — not automatically a visa denial. Destination authorities weigh rehabilitation. NYC lawyers assess impact and pursue expungement where eligible.

How it works

  1. 1. Documents

Original passport + 2 copies | current visa/work permit | Thai address (Certificate of Residence from Immigration THB 500) | 2 photos 2-inch, white background.

  2. 2. Fingerprinting

RTP HQ, Chaeng Watthana, Mon-Fri 08:30-12:00. Livescan digital + inked backup for jurisdictions that don't accept Livescan (UK, Australia).

  3. 3. Filing

Purpose (visa/migration/employment/adoption) + destination country + FBI/DBS code (if any). Government fee THB 100.

  4. 4. Tracking

CDIS check 15-20 business days. NYC liaises with the case officer via phone and email.

  5. 5. MFA + Apostille

English translation + MFA authentication + Apostille for Hague states, or embassy legalization for non-Hague.

FAQ

How long must I have lived in Thailand?

Thailand imposes no minimum residence period before you can request a police clearance certificate. The requirement comes from the destination instead: the United States generally asks for six months of residence, while the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada usually expect twelve months before a Thai certificate is required.

Can I apply from abroad?

Yes. You may lodge the application through a Thai embassy or consulate, but the file has to travel back to the Royal Thai Police in Bangkok, so budget 30 to 45 days instead of the usual local turnaround. NYC has partner offices in London, Washington DC and Canberra that handle fingerprinting and courier legs for you.

How long is the certificate valid?

Thailand itself sets no expiry date on a police clearance certificate, so the practical limit comes from the receiving authority. As a rule of thumb the United States accepts about fifteen months, Australia twelve months, and the United Kingdom and Canada roughly six months from the issue date.

Do I need to attend in person?

Yes. Biometric capture requires your physical presence at the appointment, and the officer will also verify your original identity documents at the counter. We accompany you with an interpreter, prepare the forms in advance and confirm the document checklist the day before so nothing is missing.

Does a clean certificate guarantee approval?

No. Destination authorities cross-check Interpol notices and, for the United States, the FBI NCIC database, so a clean Thai record only settles the Thai part of your history. Supplementary statutory declarations covering time spent in other countries are often requested, and NYC prepares and notarises those for you.
