Apostille — single Thai-side step accepted by every Danish authority
Denmark acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention on 30 October 2006, with effect from 29 December 2006. With Thailand's accession on 28 February 2027, the Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok will cease all Thai-document legalisation. The Thai MFA Apostille from the Department of Consular Affairs at Chaeng Wattana is the sole Thai-side authentication accepted by Styrelsen for International Rekruttering og Integration (SIRI), Familieretshuset, Styrelsen for Patientsikkerhed, Uddannelses- og Forskningsministeriet (UFM), every byret, Erhvervsstyrelsen, and Skattestyrelsen.
Reverse direction: Danish public documents destined for Thai use receive an Apostille from the Danish MFA Legalisation Service in Copenhagen (Asiatisk Plads). Royal Thai Embassy Copenhagen will no longer attest Danish documents from 28 February 2027.
Translation — Denmark's post-2016 deregulated landscape
Denmark abolished the statsautoriseret translatør (state-authorised translator) monopoly with the 2016 reform. Today, Danish authorities accept translations from any professional translator who signs a declaration of accuracy. Many universities, hospitals, and ministries publish their own lists of recommended translation providers. Translators Association Denmark (Translatørforeningen) operates a voluntary certification scheme that remains the de facto standard for legal and medical translations.

SIRI residence permits, Familieretshuset, and CPR registration
Thai applicants for family reunification (familiesammenføring) with a Danish citizen/permanent resident, the Positive List scheme (faglært arbejdskraft), the Pay Limit scheme, or study permit file through SIRI's nyidanmark portal with biometric capture at VFS Global Bangkok. Required: Apostilled birth certificate + Apostilled criminal record (≤3 months) + Apostilled marriage certificate (for spouses) + Apostilled degree (for skilled work) + Danish translation with translator's declaration + Danish sponsor's CPR-attest from kommune.
Upon arrival, the Thai national visits the kommune borgerservice for a CPR number (10-digit central person register), receives a yellow sundhedskort with assigned almen praktiserende læge, and collects the residence permit card by post. Familieretshuset handles cross-border family-law matters, including transcription of Thai marriages and divorces into Danish civil-status records. Styrelsen for Patientsikkerhed, UFM, and regulated-profession authorisation
Healthcare professionals (læger, sygeplejersker, tandlæger, farmaceuter, fysioterapeuter, jordemødre) apply to Styrelsen for Patientsikkerhed for autorisation. Required: Apostilled degree + Apostilled transcript + Apostilled Thai professional registration + Apostilled good standing + Danish translation + Danish language test (Studieprøven C1 medical) + fagprøve (knowledge test) + 6–12 months evalueringsansættelse supervised practice for non-EU/EEA applicants. Processing 18–24 months.
UFM (Uddannelses- og Forskningsministeriet — formerly UVM) issues academic-credential recognition for non-regulated professions. Required: Apostilled degree + Apostilled transcript + Danish/English translation. Fee DKK 945 for a full assessment, processing 2–4 months. UFM's recognition statement is accepted by Jobcenter, universities for admission, and most public-sector employers. For PhD-level recognition, applicants apply directly to the receiving Danish university.
