Apostille — single Thai-side step accepted by every Swedish authority
The Kingdom of Sweden acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention on 2 March 1999, with effect from 1 May 1999. With Thailand's accession on 28 February 2027, the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok will cease all Thai-document legalisation. The Thai MFA Apostille from the Department of Consular Affairs at Chaeng Wattana is the sole Thai-side authentication accepted by Migrationsverket (Stockholm/Norrköping), Skatteverket (folkbokföring), UHR (Universitets- och högskolerådet), Socialstyrelsen, every tingsrätt, Bolagsverket, and Försäkringskassan.
Reverse direction: Swedish public documents destined for Thai use receive an Apostille from a notarius publicus (most often the länsstyrelse-appointed notary in Stockholm, Göteborg, or Malmö). Royal Thai Embassy Stockholm will no longer attest Swedish documents from 28 February 2027; the Apostille is final on the Swedish side as well.
Sworn translation — Kammarkollegiet auktoriserad translator
Sworn translations for Swedish authorities must be produced by an auktoriserad translator authorised by Kammarkollegiet — Sweden's central administrative authority for translator/interpreter authorisation. The translator's stamp carries the Kammarkollegiet authorisation number and language pair (Thai–Swedish or English–Swedish). Thai-side sworn translations, even those certified by the Thai MoJ, are not accepted by Swedish authorities even with Apostille.

Migrationsverket family reunification, work permit, and personnummer
Thai applicants for family reunification (anknytning) with a Swedish citizen/permanent resident, work permit (arbetstillstånd), or study permit file through the Migrationsverket online portal with biometric capture at VFS Global Bangkok. Required: Apostilled birth certificate + Apostilled criminal record (≤6 months) + Apostilled marriage certificate (for spouses) + Apostilled degree (for skilled work permits) + sworn Swedish translation + Swedish sponsor's civil-status documents from Skatteverket.
Upon arrival, the Thai national visits the nearest Skatteverket office for folkbokföring (population registration), receives a personnummer (12-digit personal identity number), and collects the residence permit card by post. UHR, Socialstyrelsen, and regulated-profession registration
UHR (Universitets- och högskolerådet) issues academic-credential evaluations free of charge with an 8-month statutory decision window. Required: Apostilled degree + Apostilled transcript + sworn Swedish or English translation. UHR's evaluation statement is accepted by Arbetsförmedlingen, universities for admission, and most public-sector employers. Healthcare professionals (läkare, sjuksköterskor, tandläkare, apotekare, fysioterapeuter, barnmorskor) apply to Socialstyrelsen for legitimation.
Socialstyrelsen requires Apostilled degree + Apostilled transcript + Apostilled Thai professional registration + Apostilled good standing + sworn Swedish translation + TÖL Swedish language test (C1 medical) + kunskapsprov (knowledge test) + practical service for non-EU/EEA applicants.
