What changed on 28 February 2027
France has been a Hague Apostille party since 1965. Thailand's accession entered into force on 28 February 2027. From that date the French Embassy in Bangkok closed its légalisation counter for Thai public documents. A Thai MFA Apostille is now the sole and final Thai-side authentication accepted by Mairies, Préfectures, OFII, Tribunaux Judiciaires, and the Ministère de l'Europe et des Affaires Étrangères (MEAE) in Paris.
The Apostille is issued by the Department of Consular Affairs at Chaeng Wattana on standard service in 2 working days (THB 200/page) or express on the same day (THB 400/page). NYC's couriered submission closes the Apostille leg in 2–4 business days end-to-end including Thai-side notarisation and document collection.
The translation trap — Thai translations are not accepted
This is the single most common rejection cause we see on the France corridor. French authorities require translations done by a traducteur assermenté — a translator who has personally sworn the oath before a French Cour d'appel and whose name appears on the official Cour d'appel list of experts judiciaires. A Thai sworn translation, even with MFA legalisation, does not satisfy this rule for Mairie marriage, OFII, Préfecture, or any French court filing.

Mairie marriage and capacité matrimoniale
A Thai national marrying a French citizen at a Mairie files: (1) extrait d'acte de naissance plurilingue or full birth certificate within 3 months, (2) certificat de célibat (single-status affidavit) within 3 months, (3) certificat de coutume (statement of Thai marriage law — issued by the Royal Thai Embassy Paris), (4) attestation sur l'honneur de non-PACS. Items (1) and (2) are Apostilled in Thailand; item (3) is issued by the Thai Embassy in Paris; item (4) is a French-side declaration.
After publication of the bans (publication des bans) for 10 days at the Mairie of the French spouse, the marriage can be celebrated. The French marriage certificate (acte de mariage) is automatically transcribed into French civil registers and can be requested as an extrait plurilingue thereafter.
OFII medical and visa long séjour
Any Thai national entering France on a visa long séjour valant titre de séjour (VLS-TS) — student, employee, family — must validate the visa with OFII within 3 months of arrival. The OFII medical examination is performed at an OFII-accredited Bangkok clinic before departure or at OFII delegations in France. The OFII certificate is required for the carte de séjour application at the Préfecture.
