Apostille is the only Thai-side step
The United Kingdom is an original signatory of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention (effective 24 January 1965). With Thailand's accession on 28 February 2027, the British Embassy in Bangkok will cease all Thai-document legalisation. A Thai MFA Apostille — issued by the Department of Consular Affairs at Chaeng Wattana — is the sole and final Thai-side authentication accepted by UKVI, the Home Office, NMC, GMC, GDC, NARIC (now Ecctis), the General Register Office (GRO), and HM Courts and Tribunals Service.
Reverse direction: UK public documents destined for Thai use receive an Apostille from the FCDO Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes (£30 standard, £75 premium). The Royal Thai Embassy in London will no longer attest UK documents from 28 February 2027.
Certified translation — UK flexibility
Unlike Spain or France, the UK does not maintain a register of sworn translators. UKVI, the Home Office, and most receiving bodies accept certified translations produced by any professional translator or translation company that provides: (1) a confirmation that it is a true and accurate translation of the original document; (2) the date of the translation; (3) the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised representative; and (4) contact details of the translator or company.

Standard rate THB 750 per A4 page for civil documents. ITI- and CIOL-qualified translators are available for NMC and GMC submissions that require an additional translator-CV upload.
Skilled Worker visa, Spouse visa and the Home Office stack
A Thai national applying for a Skilled Worker visa (sponsored), Health and Care Worker visa, or Spouse visa (Appendix FM) submits via the UKVI online portal with biometric capture at VFS Global in Bangkok (Trendy Building, Sukhumvit 13). Required documents: passport, Apostilled TB clearance certificate (IOM Bangkok), Apostilled criminal record (if 12+ months in any country in last 10 years), Apostilled marriage certificate (spouse route), certified English translations of all Thai-language documents, and financial evidence (£29,000 minimum gross salary threshold from April 2024).

Standard turnaround 8–12 business days for the Thai-side workflow. Priority service (£500 UKVI premium) reduces UKVI decision time to 5 working days.
NMC nursing, GMC medical, and Ecctis academic
Thai-trained nurses registering with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) submit: (1) Thai Nursing Council registration certificate (Apostilled + translated), (2) academic degree and transcripts (Apostilled + translated), (3) IELTS Academic 7.0 each band or OET B in each section, (4) Test of Competence (CBT + OSCE). NMC application fee £140 + £153 admission fee. NYC handles the Thai-side document stack in 8–10 business days.
Thai-trained doctors registering with the General Medical Council (GMC) for PLAB Part 1 and 2 submit: Apostilled MD degree + Apostilled transcript + IELTS 7.5 / OET B + Thai Medical Council registration. PLAB Part 1 sat in Bangkok at British Council; PLAB Part 2 in Manchester. Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC) Statement of Comparability for non-regulated qualifications: £49.50 standard, £140 expedited.
