Overstay means remaining past your Permit-to-Stay date. Fine THB 500/day capped at THB 20,000 if self-reported at airport departure. Frequently asked questions
Will 1-day overstay get me blacklisted?
A single day of overstay does not trigger a ban; you pay THB 500 per day, capped at THB 20,000, when you depart. Entry bans of one to ten years apply to long overstays reported voluntarily and to any overstay discovered through arrest, which carries stricter consequences.
Is the THB 20,000 cap total or per case?
Per departure (per case). 41 days × 500 = 20,500 → pay only 20,000. But arrest inside Thailand has no cap.
Is self-reporting at Immigration better than at airport?
For longer overstays it usually is. The fine amount is identical, but settling at an Immigration office produces an official receipt and a documented voluntary disclosure, which is useful evidence if a future entry or visa application is questioned. Short overstays are routinely cleared at the airport counter.
How long is the blacklist for each overstay tier?
Under 90 days: no blacklist · 90 days–1 yr: 1 yr · 1–3 yrs: 3 yrs · 3–5 yrs: 5 yrs · 5–10 yrs: 10 yrs · 10+ yrs: lifetime.
After paying the fine, can I re-enter immediately?
If no entry ban was recorded, there is no legal waiting period and you may return once you hold a valid visa or entry permission. In practice, officers can see the overstay record for years and may ask more questions or request proof of onward travel and funds.
